West Somerset Railway

A great thing to do while you’re in Minehead is to take a trip on the West Somerset Railway. There is something very special about travelling on a steam train. This is England’s longest heritage line, running 20 miles between Minehead and the village of Bishops Lydeard near Taunton. This scenic trip transports you through some beautiful countryside with stops along the way at stations including Blue Anchor, Williton and Crowcombe at the foot of the Quantock Hills.

Unwind and chill in front of the hill!

Minehead Beach

Minehead has a fabulous beach probably about a mile long so plenty of room for holiday makers even through peak periods. The beach is mostly sand but there are some areas of shingle and rock pools. The tide does go out quite a long way so if you are looking to swim or paddle it might be worth checking tide times. The beach itself is very clean and is ideal for building sandcastles and beach games. Public toilets are just across the road along with amusement arcades, fish & chip shops & gift shops etc. We can highly recommend the fish and chip shops, great quality food served with a friendly smile. Deck chairs and windbreakers are available for hire. Look out for some great events taking place on the beach throughout the year.

There is plenty of parking along the sea front.

Dogs are not permitted on the main beach between the harbour and the golf course from May 1st to September 30th.

Hop to the shops!

Minehead Town

Minehead has a great mix of national and independent shops.

There are galleries, craft shops and you guessed it, souvenir shops a plenty along this very pretty road.

Fancy trying some delicious local food and drink, then you’re in luck, the avenue has an array of pubs, cafes and coffee shops.

There is a good variety of shops here, some hight street names but more importantly a healthy percentage of independent shops offering ‘something a bit different’.

There is also a Farmers Market every Friday where you can purchase local produce and have a chat. There is plenty of parking available just off the main road.
